Ragi Semiya

Ragi Semiya is a healthy and tasty breakfast. It is easy to make and very few ingredients are required.

Ingredients
Ragi Semiya
  • Ragi Semiya - 200 gms
  • Oil - 2 teaspoons
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion - 1 big
  • Green chillies - 3
  • Shredded coconut - a handful
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  • Chana dal / Pottukadalai - 1 teaspoon
  • Urad dal - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1 pinch (optional)
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch piece finely chopped (optional)
  • Sugar - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
  • Salt - as required
Preparation
Take a ragi Semiya in a idli stand and steam cook for 5-7 minutes. Switch off and do not open the lid. Let it cook in the steam some more.
Pour oil in a frying pan, when hot add mustard seeds, pottukadalai, urad dal, cumin seeds, ginger, curry leaves, green chillies and fry for 2 minutes. Now add the chopped onions and fry for 3 minutes. Leave it a little crunchy as this will taste good along with Ragi.
Now add the steamed ragi and cook closed lid for 2 minutes on low medium flame.
Add shredded coconut and sugar mix well continuously.
Serve hot with chutney of your choice.
